Summer months have always been difficult for Cypriots with many sad memories of the past. #UniteCyprusNow honours the memory of the victims who were killed on the 15 and 20 July, and later, 48 years ago.
On 22 June 2022, UCN co-organized an event with Hade and Island Talks titled "Μα νάμπου γίνεται ποτζιεί; Ma oyanda neler oluyor? What’s going on over there?" at Meltemi community centre in Nicosiai The event moderated by Andromachi Sophocleous, hosted Dr Sertaç Sonan and UCN activist Kemal Baykallı, shed light on the latest economic and financial protocol with Turkey and the political developments in the Turkish Cypriot community.
#UniteCyprusNow activist Dr Huri Yontucu has won the "Academic Work that Contributed to Journalism" award of the Turkish Cypriot Journalists Association with her academic article titled "The Role of Social Psychological processes of the Journalists' War and Peace Journalism Attitudes".
Huri is a living example of an academic who works hard to make #Cyprus a better place for all Cypriots and future generations. We congratulate Huri for her success and proud to see her carrying the #peace banner in her hands as well as in her heart and mind.
#UniteCyprusNow is gravely concerned about the new and unprecedented provisions in the “Economic and Financial Cooperation Protocol”, signed with Turkey. These provisions restrict fundamental rights and freedoms and, by enhancing Turkey’s control over the Turkish Cypriots, seem designed to absorb northern Cyprus even further into Turkey.
Turkish Cypriot media is faced with unprecedented pressure as Ankara becomes more and more authoritarian and the Turkish Cypriot leadership follows suit.
